History of The Hay Diet

The American physician named William Howard Hay developed The Hay Diet in the 1920s. He was diagnosed with a nasty kidney disease and at the same time suffered from a dilated heart. Without a medical treatment he started to research food combining and came up with the concept of what is now called The Hay Diet: Eat mainly neutral food and not to mix protein and starches in the same meal.

In about three months Dr. Hay reduced his weight from 225 pounds to 175 pounds and soon his heard condition was almost normal. In the following years Dr. Hay continued his research and his findings are the basics of most of the acid-alkaline diets today.

Dr. Hay died in 1940 at the age of 74 years old.
