He was diagnosed with a nasty kidney disease and at the same time suffered from a dilated heart. Without a medical treatment he started to research food combining and came up with the concept of what is now called The Hay Diet: Eat mainly neutral food and not to mix protein and starches in the same meal.</p>
<p>In about three months Dr. Hay reduced his weight from 225 pounds to 175 pounds and soon his heard condition was almost normal. In the following years Dr. Hay continued his research and his findings are the basics of most of the acid-alkaline diets today.</p>
<p>Dr. Hay died in 1940 at the age of 74 years old.</p>

<p><strong>Tip 1:</strong> If you want to quit you will obviously through out your cigarettes. But also remove all other cigarettes and smoking related items from your house like lighters, matches and ashtrays.</p>
<p><strong>Tip 2: </strong>Collect the money that you used for smokes in a jar. You will quickly see how much money you save and this will be motivation per se. Use them for rewards – dinners, movies or even traveling.</p>
<p><strong>Tip 3:</strong> Chew sugar free gum or maybe even nicotine gum as a start. Just be careful about the nicotine gum. It’s just as addictive as cigarettes. There fore have a plan to gradually reduce the use of nicotine gum.</p>
<p><strong>Tip 4:</strong> Studies say it takes about 21 days to break a habit. Make new routines to take over smoking cigarettes.</p>
<p><strong>Tip 5:</strong> If you need something in your hand or mouth, try a toothpick or a straw.</p>
<p><strong>Tip 6:</strong> Quit together with someone. Having a partner to quit with can help you encourage you when the going gets tough. This could be friends, family or co-workers.</p>
<p><strong>Tip 7:</strong> Avoid stress. Many people start smoking when they feel stressed. If you’ve got a stressful job use a nicotine supplement like nicotine patch or nicotine gum. However remember tip no 2.</p>
<p><strong>Tip 8: </strong>Try to avoid alcohol and coffee the first tree weeks since both of these often triggers the urge to smoke</p>
<p><strong>Tip 9: </strong>If you do relapse don’t feel like a failure! It happened to almost every smoker who has successfully quit. Just continue with your smoking cessation, but remember what triggered your urge though and find ways to avoid it in the future.</p>

<p>Here are two simple tips you can implement easily in your busy daily schedule.</p>

<h3>Eat before you shop</h3>
<p>Have you ever noticed that when you are hungry you get annoyed and frustrated a lot faster than normal? And when you are annoyed and frustrated you tend to go for the quick and irrational solutions? This means that when you are hungry when you go out shopping, you risk of buying quick snacks both for the drive home and for later this evening. If you instead get a healthy snack before you go shopping, you won&#8217;t be tempted to buy sweets, chips and what ever unhealthy snack you use to buy. You could go for a banana which is rich of carbohydrates &#8211; your body&#8217;s main source of energy. Bananas are easy to digest, so they boost your energy rather quickly.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h3>Make a list</h3>
<p>This is not news to you, but the supermarket and grocery store wants you to buy as much as posible. It&#8217;s no coincidence that snacks are placed at the checkout, and the use cerval other tricks. There is a whole industry of guiding supermarkets and grocery stores on how to layout the store to make the consumer to buy more. Don&#8217;t feel bad about it, cause we all tend to wander in this trap.</p>
<p>However there is a simple method to get around, and that is planning. If you make a list of what you need to buy, you will to less extent do impulse buys. Making a list will also help your budget.</p>
<p>The list could be a day to day list, how ever the best and most effective way of resisting the temptation (and cut of your budget), is to make a 5 day weekly meal plan. When we started making weekly meal plans we almost immediately started losing weight. Not because we followed a diet, but simply because we didn&#8217;t buy so much junk. And as another side catch we cut of about 15-20% of our grocery budget.</p>

<p>The Hay Diet is based on a set of food-combining principles, which says that are certain food that you may not mix. The food principles divide the food in three categories: Proteins, starches and neutral.</p>
<p><strong>The proteins </strong>are meat, fish, poultry, eggs and dairy products like cheese, milk and yogurt.</p>
<p><strong>The starches</strong> are mostly carbohydrates like bread, pasta, oats, wheat and other whole grains, potatoes, pumpkins, couscous, dried leguminous fruits like beans.</p>
<p><strong>Neutral foods</strong> are vegetables except the vegetables in the starches category. A good rule of thumb is that the neutral vegetables have a color. For example green salads and fresh herbs, tomatoes, green/red/yellow bell pepper. Neutral food is also fat like butter, egg yolk and cream (saturated fatty acids) and avocado, nuts, oils and olives (unsaturated fatty acid).</p>
<p>Keep low of the saturated fatty acids – they are the unhealthy ones.</p>

<p>Combining the food categories is very simple.  The only thing you need to know is that you may not mix proteins and starches within the same meal.  You may only mix proteins with neutral and starches with neutral. Also keep 2/3 of your meal in neutral foods.</p>
<p>It’s really easy to divide your plate up in thirds, and arrange one third with either protein or starches, and two third with neutrals. And here comes the best part: If you are not full, arrange one more plate on the basis of the same principle. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Eight years ago I smoked about two packets of cigarets a day. The office that I worked in allowed smoking at our workstations, so every time I had  a split second of waiting time (eg waiting for my computer to start up an application like Word), I would lit up a cigaret.</p>
<p>When my wife and I were told that we were going to have a baby, we both decided that it was time to <a href="http://www.get-healthy-now.info/quit-smoking/">quit smoking</a>, so it woldn&#8217;t harm the unborn child more than it already had.</p>
<p>Your motivation is everything when you want to quit something. Here are the steps that we used to build up and strengthen our motivation to quit smoking cold turkey:</p>
<h2>We scheduled a date</h2>
<p>The things you dislike about smoking can be various: Risk of cancer, harming your surrounding, be out of condition etc. But if you are just a little like other smokers you are enjoyed when you smoke and doesn&#8217;t think about the consequences.</p>
<p>To build up a mindset and our motivation we needed time. Therefore we scheduled a date about one month from the decision to quit smoking. That way we could build up our motivation while enjoying our last cigarettes with easy conscience.</p>
<h2>Toward the day</h2>
<p>Towards the day that we picked to quit smoking we were building up motivation, by keeping track of how may days left. We reminded our selfes that these were the were the steps to our new and healthy lifestyle. By counting days and the awareness that we soon were going to lay of cigarrets actually made us smoke less each day.</p>
<h2>The last day before we quit smoking</h2>
<p>At the last day of smoking I was down to less than a packet a day. Since this would be the last day we wanted to make it special and celebrate, so my wife and I went out and bought our last packets together.</p>
<p>At night we made a special dinner enjoying and celebrating saying good bye to the old lifestyle with manner. And just before we went to bed we both had some cigarrets left in our packets. We decided to snap them and flush them out the toilet one-by-one.</p>
<h2>The first week after quitting smoking</h2>
<p>The first week was hard, but by supporting each other and thinking of our unborn baby we got through it. For the office I had bought plenty of nicotine gum just in case. However I did not like the taste of it so I never really used it.</p>

As the subtitle says: A Practical Guide to Food Combining. With The Hay Diet, you can eat both carbohydrates and proteins &#8211; just don&#8217;t combine them. This book takes you around the principles of food combining, which food is the proteins, which carbohydrates and which is neutral food. I&#8217;ve been using The Hay Diet and lost 10 kilos (about 22 pounds) in just two months and I never went hungry hungry to bed and I got so much more energy through out the day. Your family has eaten your well-prepared dinner, and just before laying our kids to bed you finished the laundry. It’s time for some relaxation and how about at little snack? <p>In the fridge you’ve got carrots and cucumber. That would be healthy, but lets check the cupboards. On one shelf you got nuts, almonds, raisins and semidried fruits. On the next shelf you’ve got candy, chips and dip. On the top shelf you’ve got the toppings for the ice cream in the freezer. “Umm, ice cream” you think.</p>
<p>This is where your inner fight starts to kick in. You want to eat healthy. Maybe you are struggling with your weight. But your mind is begging you to chose the unhealthy snacks so bad. Do you think you can win this fight? Try to read the first paragraph again, and tell me that you can win.</p>
<p>Well you can’t win here at this time. The fight is unfair because you are drained of energy.</p>

<p>When you shop at the supermarket it’s typical earlier in the day. You will have more energy to put up the fight against the evening snacks and shop healthy instead.</p>
